TMJ sufferer in Southern California

Hello Dr Spainhower.

I stumbled across your website and am very interested in talking to you. I live in Southern California. 34 male and started getting TMJ symptoms a year ago. It's all very new and scary to me. I have headaches, jaw pain, it hurts when I talk. Sometimes when I yawn I feel a sharp pain in my jaw as if the joint is slipping out of place. When I swallow I hear a lot of clicking. My neck and shoulders are very tight. Honestly, my whole body is tight. Im more convinced it's stress that is causing this.

A few nights ago I noticed a ringing sound in my right ear and it hasn't stopped since. It was at that point I know I needed to get some treatment. I have seen a local dentist and they want 400$ to make a night guard. I know I need one as it's the first step in my treatment. Or do I need a splint?? I'm sure you hear this a lot, but I'm unemployed so money is tight but I know I need help. Can you please direct me on what you'd suggest? Thank you.

RICK

TMJ in Southern California

Hello Rick,

Yes, you are right, a night guard can help you treat your TMJ symptoms. Not everyone will respond to that however.

Go to the following link http://www.simple-tmj-treatment.com/MouthguardsforTMJ.html and purchase the SmartGuard Elite.

That'll give you the best chance of relieving your symptoms from a night guard.

Also, you mentioned that stress is probably the cause. Good evaluation.

Since it is hard to eliminate our stressors, we can prepare our bodies to fight that stress to handle it better.

That is overall better fitness. Run, ride a bike, swim. Do this at least 3 times per week, and make it a habit.

Nutrition and exercising are excellent treatments to fight TMJ.

The night guard is the fastest...often just over one night, and even just minutes after you put the SmartGuard in your mouth during the day.

Email me if you have any other questions...tmjspainhower at g mail dot com.

Sincerely,

Dr. Spainhower
