question about how to treat degenerative tmj arthritis and chronic pain

by Marcie Impagliazzo
(Belllingham Washington)

I have had tmj for 33 years and recently have been diagnosed with severe arthritis of both tmj joints in my last MRI.I,ve had 3 unsuccessful surgeries and had defective Vitek Ploplast which were removed but caused a lot of damage and incresed pain thoughout the years.

Would a nerve block possibly help stop the pain? How about medical marijuana and has this been successful in treating tmj pain?Any suggessions would be helpful as I am suffering very much.

Thank you,
Marcie Impagliazzo

Vitek Ploplast surgery
by: Anonymous

Hello Marcie,

There are very few patients that have had that surgery with the Vitek Ploplast. Most cases are ending up in removal such as your self.

I recommend that you contact the University of Southern California and ask for the specialist for TMJ (Dr. Glenn Clark) at the Dental School.

Sincerely,

Dr. Spainhower
