Jaw Clicking

by Teri
(Des Moines, IA)

I am 16 years old. My jaw has been clicking for about a year now. I now just recently have gotten pains on the inside of my mouth on my gums and around my chin, but these pains are only on the left side of my face. Is this serious?

Pain in jaw
by: Dr. Spainhower

Hello Teri,

I can't diagnose your symptoms for you as many other causes could be causing your gum and chin pains. It could be a number of many things.

Your clicking however could be the common dislocating of the meniscus in the TMJ. This is common and is usually Not serious.

You'll need to see a local clinician to diagnose your pain in your gums and chin.

Sincerely,

Dr. Spainhower
