Jaw locked
by: Dr. Spainhower

Hello Sherrie,

There are two types of jaw locks...

#1 A true lock where your disc is bound up and prevents your mouth from opening.

#2 Trismus, where your muscles are not allowing your mouth to open.

A true lock is more concerning and more difficult to treat.

Yours is most likely trismus. So, the best things to do is wear a night guard at night and during the day, take ibuprofen and don't chew hard foods. Relax the jaw as much as possible.

It may come unlocked any day or up to 30 days or so. But usually will come unlocked within a week or so.

Lmk if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Dr. Spainhower
