Acrylic Splint

Are you familiar with a "centric relation splint"?

I have crowded teeth,a bite problem with muscle tightness but no severe joint pain. just discomfort.

I have seen a general dentist in the Jacksonville area
who is recommending a customized splint to be worn as much as possible for 3-4 months with monthly adjustments.

I have concerns about proceeding with this.
I have been told this is a conservative move.
What do you think?
